Trip Notes

  • This Adventure style trip is for travelers aged 18-29.
  • The train journeys on this trip can get pretty busy at peak periods, so we’d strongly recommend you pack your rucksack lightly so you can get on and off the trains quickly.

  • There are some steep steps up to the guesthouse in Moulay Idriss, which requires a moderate level of fitness. Mules can be provided if you need some assistance in carrying your luggage from the taxi to the accommodation.

  • There are a few long minibus journeys on this trip, some in excess of three hours - especially from Fes to Midelt and Midelt to Merzouga. While conditions can feel a bit cramped in the van, the scenery is stunning and regular stops will be made to break up your journey.

  • While temperatures in the desert can be pleasant during the day, when the sun goes down it can get very cold. Please make sure you bring some warm clothing and base layers.

  • For some, the camel ride is one of the highlights of the trip. If you don't feel comfortable with this activity, it's possible to simply walk alongside the rest of the group. The ride to the desert camp takes about an hour and is idyllic in the late afternoon light.

  • At the desert camp, there are four berber tents and one large communal tent. Mattresses, sheets and blankets are provided, but it's also recommended that you bring your own sleeping sheet. You may even want to bring a sleeping bag if you're travelling during the colder months.

  • In a full-day tour around the Medina of Fes (Day 4), you'll be on your feet for a good five to six hours. Keep in mind that this is one of the highlights of Morocco and well worth the exertion!

  • The camel trek through the Sahara (Day 6) is an amazing way to experience the desert, but it may be painful on your backside. If you'd prefer, it's possible to walk alongside the caravan on the sand for about an hour. Remember that you'll need to make the (quite easy) walk back in the other direction the next day.

  • The Todra Gorge visit (Day 7) takes you to a remote area of Morocco. It is an amazing place to discover on foot, but to do so you'll need a moderate level of fitness and suitable footwear and clothing. If trekking isn’t your thing, have no fear, as there are plenty of other activities to do in the valley.

  • In 2017, Ramadan will take place from 26 May to 25 June. It may cause some disturbance to your travel schedule. Some regular services may not be available or open during the daytime, such as restaurants or coffee bars. Please consider your travel arrangements carefully.

  • Although you shouldn’t expect any aggressive selling techniques in Morocco, please be aware that you may be approached regularly by shop owners and street vendors.

  • This itinerary includes a half-day canoe adventure along the Orange River.
  • This itinerary includes 2 nights on a house boat at the Okavango Delta. Cabins are very small and basic with shared facilities.
  • We use our purpose-built overland vehicles for the duration of this trip. It is important to note that while our vehicles are not air-conditioned, all windows do open to allow for fresh air. But please be aware that road travel in Africa comes with its fair share of dust, so while curtains are fitted to minimize the sun shine, it can get hot and windy.
  • This itinerary features some long travel days which can be exacerbated by bumpy African roads.
  • Our overland safaris do not necessitate exceptional fitness levels, but a general level of physical movement is required. For example, you need to judge yourself physically fit enough to handle entering and exiting our vehicles several times a day and must be prepared for some long travel days.
  • Namibia summer ( Nov-Mar ) can be very hot and humid with maximum temperatures around 30-35°C and peaks of over 40°C in the desert.

  • Road travel in Africa comes with a considerable amount of dust and it can get hot and windy, especially in Namibia. It wouldn't be an adventure without the elements, of course!

  • Namibia summer (Nov-Mar) can be very hot and humid with maximum temperatures around 30-35°C and peaks of over 40°C in the desert.

  • Lombok is more conservative than it's Balinese neighbour. Particularly in smaller towns and during village walks, it is best to dress conservatively

Trip Notes

  • Since there are potholes and cobblestones in many European cities, it's recommended that you leave any wheelie bags/cases at home and bring a backpack instead.
  • Due to the current financial situation, banking services in Greece could potentially become limited at short notice. This includes credit card processing services and servicing of ATMs. When travelling through Greece, please ensure you have more than one means of payment with you (cash, debit cards, credit cards etc.). You'll also need to have sufficient Euros in cash to cover emergencies, unforeseen circumstances and any unexpected delays.
  • Summer temperatures can be extreme in Greece (over 40°C), which can be uncomfortable. It’s important to use sun protection, wear layers to combat the heat and drink plenty of water. Please carefully consider the time of the year you wish to travel and your suitability to that season.

Trip Notes

  • Summer temperatures in Greece can reach up to 40°C, so you will need to be able to cope with the heat if you're visiting during the warmer months. Please consider the time of year and your suitability to visiting during that season.
  • Pickpocketing can be an issue in Athens, especially on public transport. If you keep your valuables concealed and secure while travelling on the metro or bus, you should have no problems.

  • Due to the current financial situation, banking services in Greece could become limited at short notice. It's important to carry several different means of payment with you, such as debit cards, credit cards and plenty of Euros in case of emergency or unforseen circumstances.

Trip Notes

  • This Adventure style tour is for travelers aged 18-29.

  • On this trip you’ll be camping along the Inca Trail and spending the night in a homestay on Lake Titicaca. Both have very basic, shared facilities (such as drop toilets and no showers).

  • The Amazon Jungle can be very hot and humid. Light cotton clothing is the best way to tackle this. Also, don't forget tropical-strength insect repellent.

  • It’s important to wear sunscreen and other sun protection, and always drink plenty of water.

  • This trip involves a lot of hiking and walking, so requires a moderate level of fitness. There are a few different trail options to suit your interests and physical capabilities. Please bring durable footwear suitable to hiking.

  • Due to the high altitude of many of places we visit some people can suffer altitude sickness. Some people aren’t affected at all, but if you are, be sure to drink plenty of water and don’t push yourself too hard.

  • You'll be spending a lot of time in a 4WD crossing some bumpy surfaces. This is the best way to see the sights in and around Uyuni and is all part of the adventure.

  • In Bolivia (especially in Uyuni), sometimes things don't go to plan. For example, an attraction may be closed for the day with no notice or reason. Although this doesn't happen very often, please be prepared for the possibility.

  • This trip is not like other standard group trips. Depending on the amount of people wanting to travel, you may join up with like-minded travellers from other companies (who may be older than 29 years old) or travel alone with a guide. Either way, you'll see some of the most fascinating landscapes in South America.

Trip Notes

  • This Adventure style tour is for travelers aged 18-29.

  • Myanmar is a big country and there are many long days of travelling. Expect to spend a lot of time in a vehicle when travelling between destinations. This is a great opportunity to sit back, enjoy the passing scenery and get to know your fellow travellers.

  • The train trip from Yangon to Bagan is long and bumpy, and conditions on board are basic. But it's a rewarding, interesting journey, and an authentic taste of how locals travel. Plus you get to wake up in a new and exciting place.

  • Travel by public ferry from Bagan to Mandalay. This trip will take the whole day, but it's a great chance to watch life along the banks of the river.

Trip Notes

  • This trip involves a lot of walking – often barefoot. You’ll be visiting many religious sites where you must remove all footwear before entering. In places like Bagan, you may need to climb steep steps (sometimes without railing) barefoot, but the views are well worth it.
  • You’ll stay at a Community Lodge in central Myanmar, in simple accommodation with limited power and facilities. This is a new community-based initiative, so there may be some kinks, but the experience promises to be fantastic.
  • Touring by bicycle is probably the best way to see Bagan. Although it’s an easy ride well within the abilities of most people, it does take you off paved roads and onto sandy terrain.
  • Myanmar is a hot and humid country, even in winter. If you don’t tolerate the heat well, avoid doing the trip in summer.
  • This trip takes you on a full-day walking tour of the villages around Kalaw. While the walk itself is quite easy, you’ll need a decent level of fitness to get through the long day.

Additionally transport to the summit on bench seats in trucks is the only transport available. However, the experience of seeing the Golden Rock is more than worthwhile.

  • Entering or climbing the temples of Bagan will require you to remove your footwear and socks. Some of the temple steps are very steep, and without railings.

  • The optional climb to the top of Mt Popa is also steep, with 777 steps in total, and you will be barefoot part of the way. So you will need to step with caution before taking in the views.

  • Suitable footwear will be required for uneven terrain, especially when walking around Indein and to the Shan Village.

  • Myanmar is a vast country, so to save time travelling we do include 3 internal flights on this trip. Bear in mind that these may be in smaller aircraft.

  • It is important to be prepared for the elements – between March and October the heat and humidity can be intense. However, your local leader will adjust activities to suit the local conditions and the needs of the group.

Trip Notes

  • The regions visited on this trip can be extreme in temperature. It’s important to prepare for hot temperatures during the day and cooler climates in the evening. Rajasthan in particular can be very hot, especially in the summer. Layers are the best way to tackle any disparities in weather.
  • We visit a number of temples on this trip, which requires a certain level of modesty. Please bring clothes that cover the arms and pants/skirts that go past the knees. A light scarf is also a good idea for covering shoulders and arms when it’s hot.
  • This trip involves some long train rides, including a couple of overnight trains. The train journey from Delhi to Varanasi is approximately 13 hours, while the trip from Varanasi to Agra takes 11 hours. While this can be tiresome, train travel is a classic Indian experience. Sleeper trains are clean and air-conditioned and a great way to travel long distances while still getting maximum time in each place. Beds are padded berths with sheets, pillow and blanket provided (although some people prefer to bring their own sleeping sheet). Please note that you may be sharing with locals of the same or opposite gender. For your own security, take a lock for your hand luggage. Please note that sleeper train journeys in and out of Varanasi can be subject to long delays because of weather conditions.
  • You will also be travelling by local bus on this trip. While conditions are basic, this is a great way to rub shoulders with the locals while enjoying the passing scenery.

Itinerary

Day 1: July 4, 2017 Dubrovnik

Dobro Dosli! Welcome to Croatia. Dubrovnik is a beautiful white stone town surrounded entirely by city walls. Although it experiences devastation during the war in the early 1990s, the restored old town remains as charming as ever. With the sparkling water of the Adriatic in the background, Dubrovnik is picturesque, full of character, and can be easily covered on foot. Your adventure begins at 6pm today - check with Reception to confirm the time and place - and you can arrive at anytime before then. If you can't arrange a flight that with have you arrive at the hotel by early evening, you may wish to arrive a day early. We'll be happy to book additional accommodation for you (subject to availability). If you're going to be late, please inform the hotel reception. We'll be collecting your insurance details and next of kin information at this meeting, so please have these on hand. If you arrive early, why not head to one of the Elafiti Islands. There's Lopud, a quiet island with lovely hikes, clean beaches, and a ruined castle. Kolocep is a creepy enclave that boasts walks for every fitness level, and Sipan is the most populated of the isles and reputedly has the most hospitable inhabitants. After the meeting, perhaps enjoy a meal with the group so you can get to know your fellow travelers.

Day 2: July 5, 2017 Dubrovnik

Today is a free day for you to enjoy all that Dubrovnik has to offer. Maybe take a walk along the city walls of 'Game of Thrones' fame, enjoying views of the sparkling Adriatic Sea in this undisputed jewel of the Dalmatian coast. Visit Big Onofrio's Fountain, built by architect Onofrio della Cava in the 15th century to supply water to the city. Perhaps check out the Franciscan monastery, home to one of the world's oldest pharmacies, or the Sponza and Rector's Palaces, the only Renaissance buildings in the city to survive a devastating earthquake and fire in 1667. You can get a snapshot of Croatian history at one of the many museums, take a quiet moment inside and old cathedral, or cruise out to nearby Lokrum Island. If you still feel energetic after a day exploring the city you can take the switchbacks leading up Srd Hill behind Dubrovnik for spectacular views of the city and the Dalmatian coastline. Alternatively, the newly restored cable car can whisk you to the top in less than 10 minutes. The hill is topped by a castle from Napoleonic times, which now house the Museum of the Croatian War of Independence

Included Activities

  • Dubrovnik City Walls

Optional Activities

  • Beach Chair Rental - HRK75
  • Diving Excursion - HRK550
  • Fish Picnic Cruise - HRK300
  • Lokrum Island Boat Trip - HRK40
  • War Photography Museum - HRK40
  • Game of Thrones Tour - HRK200

Day 3: July 6, 2017 Korcula Island

Journey by bus and boat to Korcula (approximately 4 hours). The time you depart and your travel time may vary depending on the transport schedule. For the next two nights, stay with generous hosts - locals who rent out their rooms in the summer season. The rooms, while simple, are the best way to put money back into the local economy. Later in the afternoon, make the short journey by local bus (approximately 30 minutes) to the tiny village of Pupnat (population: 300) in the interior of the island. Here you'll visit a local farm/restaurant and eat outside on the patio. Sample of the family vineyard's wines and be treated to a meal made entirely from ingredients found on the farm. The traditional Dalmatian meat loaf, or pasticada, and fresh grilled vegetables with olive oil constitute a typical dish, all served with fresh goat and sheep cheeses, and maybe some smoked ham to tie is all together. Don't forget to have a bit of travarica (a grappa-like drink made with verbena) and some Korcula cakes for dessert before heading back to Korcula town.

Included Activities

  • Wine Tasting and Dinner in Pupnat Village - Korcula Island

Day 4: July 7, 2017 Korcula Island

Today is a free day for you to take in the serene forest landscape, dotted with tranquil inlets and character-filled vineyards, on an island where natives believe Marco Polo was born. Whether or not this can be proved (the Venetians have a similar claim), Korcula is steeping in a long history and the islanders are proud owners of this little gem, smaller than Dubrovnik but no less precious to its inhabitants. Greeks settled in the 6th century BC, but the town was also occupied by the Romans, the Slavs, and the Venetians. As a result of all of these influences, Korcula has a stunning Old Town - romantic and evocative. And what's more, there are plenty of warm beaches to relax on if that's more your speed. You might like to take a swim, walk around the bays and villages near Korcula town, pay a visit to the Marco Polo tower, go shopping, or just soak up the ambience. If you're feeling energetic, take a snorkeling, kayaking, or mountain-biking day trip. Your leader can help arrange these activities from your base in Korcula.

Optional Activities

  • Local Bus to Island Villages - HRK40
  • Marco Polo Tower - HRK20
  • Snorkelling Day Trip - HRK 350
  • Marco Polo Museum - HRK60
  • Traditional Moreska Dance Performance - HRK100

Day 5: July 8, 2017 Hvar Island

A hydrofoil ferry takes you to the neighboring island of Hvar (approximately 90 minutes). Beautiful Hvar has an air of Venice about it, and is known as the 'Queen of the Dalmatian Islands'. Wandere around a town with wonderfully preserved Renaissance facades, hike past dramatic jagged limestone cliffs and slow your pace to enjoy the undulating farms, fields of lavender and rosemary, and ancient olive groves. Upon arrival, get to know the town with an orientation walk and visit the 16th century Spanjola Fortress, from where spectacular views of own and this part of the Adriatic can be had. For the next two nights, you'll stay in private apartments that locals rent out during the summer months. They are diverse and can vary in size and most may not have air-conditioning. All are located within 15 minutes of the main square. Feel the history when wandering the backstreets of quirky galleries and unique boutiques, watch the fishermen bring the day's catch into the quay, and chill out over a few cocktails in a waterside bar.

Included Activities

  • Hvar Orientation Walk
  • Spanjola Fortress - Hvar Town

Day 6: July 9, 2017 Hvar Island

Today is a free day. There are plenty of options for exciting activities in town, or take a short hike on the nearby Pakleni islands - largely uninhabited and often described as being among the most beautiful in the world. Depending on the weather, there is an option to join a four-hour walk through the lavender fields (they are blooming in June) and olive groves that are abundant on this pearl in the Adriatic. If you don't feel energetic today, spend the day lounging at one of the island's many quiet beaches and enjoy a sunset stroll along the harbor promenade. Alternatively, why not visit the island of Brac, with with famed white pebbled beach, Zlatni Rat. Villagers have farmed wine, olive oil, figs, and almonds in the difficult interior of this rock-strewn island for centuries, but it's the small, beach-side towns that draw the crowds. The island is famous for milk-white marble, which was used for the construction of the White House in Washington DC and Diocletian's Palace in Split. Tonight, be sure to sample some of the best seafood around, caught fresh that day.

Optional Activities

  • Pakleni Island Half Day Trip - HRK250
  • Full Day Boat Cruise to Blue Cave, Green Cave, and Vis Island - HRK 500
  • St. Stephen's Cathedral - HRK10

Day 7: July 10, 2017 Split

Catch a boat to Split (approximately 2 hours). If Dubrovnik is considered the heart of Dalmatia, Split is certainly its soul. Situated on a small peninsula on the eastern shores of the Adriatic Sea, it's the second largest city in Croatia. This stunning seaside town is home to some of the most beautiful beaches on the coast. Join a local guide for a walking tour of Split and get to know its history. See the original and fantastically preserved basements under the city, as well as the Cathedral in Diocletian's Peristyle and Jupiter's Temple. Explore the impressive ruins of Diocletian's Palace, Split's most imposing structure and some of the most interesting ruins on the Adriatic coast. Portions of the Palace are over 1,700 years old and there's ample time to experience this time-defying striation. Split grew out from Diocletian's Palace and you can almost see if evolving in a multitude of different ways right before your eyes. Some cultures might have made the palace a museum, but Split is a dynamics and vibrant place, and the palace houses many businesses and homes. If your feet get tired, why not grab a drink at a cave on the Riva Promenade and people watch for a while.

Included Activities

  • Split Guided City Tour
  • Diocletian's Palace
  • Split Cathedral and Tower

Day 8: July 11, 2017 Krka National Park

Travel to Krka National Park by private vehicle for a day of exploring at your leisure. There is time to visit dramatic waterfalls and cool off with a refreshing swim, or you may like to board small riverboats for a trip through the park. The wooden jetties and walkways in Krka National Park can be quite slippery. Do take care, ensuring your footwear has a reasonable grip, and the stunning scenery will be well worth it. At the end of the day, return to the vehicle for the drive back to Split.

Included Activities
